Next Stage of Kilogram-2 Project Implemented due to JSC Isotope’s Participation

The preparations for Silicum-28 isotopes' production have started at JSC "PA "Electrochemical Plant" opening the third stage of Kilogram-2 project (the creation of a new kilogram mass standard). This project was launched as part of "Avogadro" project commissioned by the International Bureau of Weights and Measures. The work will begin in January, 2014 and will be finished in three months according to the schedule.

In the middle of 2013 the Electrochemical Plant supplied the Institute of Chemistry of High-Purity Substances of the Russian Academy of Sciences with raw material, namely, Silicon tetrafluoride enriched with Silicum-28. The Institute's specialists grew from it a 400-gramm polycrystal which was later sent to the Institute of Crystal Growth (Berlin ). The scientists there turned it into a monocrystal. The first tests of this crystal were successful.

According to the tests' results the work of the project's participants has been corrected. It is stated in a letter by the head of "Avogadro" research group at the National Metrology Institute of Germany Horst Bettin addressed to the General Director of JSC Isotope Boris Akakiev.

The experimental part of Kilogram-2 project will continue until the middle of 2015.
