PET/CT data used to create 3D images for surgical planning

Researchers have developed a new approach that uses molecular PET/CT images of patients to create detailed 3D hologram-like displays of human organs for use by surgeons. Data published in PLOS ONE showed the technique would greatly improve surgical planning and help surgeons address anatomical complexities uncovered during operations. Researchers plan to add a sense of touch with haptic manipulators to the image.
